The island of Mont Saint Michel, the paradise of France

The island of Mont Saint Michel, which is regarded one of Europe's most magnificent castles, is one of France's most popular tourist sites, second only to the Eiffel Tower and Versailles palace.

Mont Saint Michel, a stone island located more than 350 kilometers from Paris, is a municipality in Normandie (France). With a relatively small size (approximately 100 hectares) and four sides facing the sea, the island's population is fairly small, with just around 50 people living there. Many years ago, Mont Saint Michel was a French walled fortification as well as the principal church of the Saint Michel citadel. This is also why the island is known as Saint Michel.

With its natural and historic beauty, this island is consistently ranked among the best tourist attractions in France. The castle featured in the popular film "Lord of the Rings" is the most notable feature of Mont Saint Michel. Although it is a tourist destination, with hotels, restaurants, and souvenir stores sprouting up like mushrooms, the unique thing about it is that this development has had no effect. It is more amazing to the polite civilization of the local people when this location is still surrounded by traditional indigenous beauty.

Visitors may easily go to this location by air, rail, or vehicle. With its old, untamed, and mystical beauty, this site is also a must-see for photographers. Every small element here is adorably gorgeous, making you want to keep shooting since you don't want to miss a single scene. However, please keep in mind that you should not photograph island residents or religious rituals without their consent.

From a distance, the island appears to be an architectural work, with a great castle in the center and smaller structures around it. Saint Michel castle is made of stone and designed in the Gothic style. The Catholic monastery, located 92 kilometers above sea level, is the castle's highest point. The Great Hall is a bit lower, and ultimately the living area, shops, and fortified city walls. Farmers and fisherman live on the citadel's outskirts.

To properly appreciate the splendor of this location, tourists need first spend time going down Grand Rue, which, while being fairly tiny, is often busy with people. Visitors will readily locate unique items as well as eateries providing tasty food. Houses erected in the 15th and 16th centuries line the street, each with its own distinct and outstanding Western-style architecture.

The next stop on the voyage is the monastery of Mont Saint Michel, which is located on top of the island and was founded before the 1000s. Initially, the monastery was built in medieval style, with a bow-shaped dome and tall windows. The monastery was destroyed in 1421 and rebuilt in the Gothic form that we see today. Visitors may tour the island while admiring the gorgeous water from the stairs. Seeing the tide rise and fall is something that every visitor wants to do when they come here.

Furthermore, the island boasts a diversified gastronomy, including two delicacies that tourists must try: "fried eggs in the manner of mother Poulard" (Omelette à la Nére Poulard) and "salted pasture lamb" (mouton de pré-salé), both of which have devoured a lot of ink in the tourism sector.

If you already adore France, why not visit Mont Saint Michel? It's only 360 kilometers from Paris, so it won't take long. You should always visit Le Mont Saint Michel when on a tour of France so that you don't waste the wonderful landscape here.
