Visiting Versailles from Paris

Because of its enormous palace scale, exquisite design, and extravagant decorating, the Palace of Versailles is regarded as the most magnificent palace in Europe and the most beautiful in the whole world.

The Versailles Palace is a representation of the French feudal dynasties' dark might. Therefore, if you haven't been to the Palace of Versailles, your experience traveling in Europe, and particularly in France, will be incomplete.

20 kilometers west of Paris is where you'll find the Palace of Versailles. The French feudal dynasties' ultimate power emblem is this. The French monarchs Louis XIII, Louis XIV, Louis XV, and Louis XVI all lived there.

Versailles is one of the largest and most exquisite palaces in Europe as well as the globe, with a palace of 67,000 square meters with more than 2,000 rooms and a park measuring 815 hectares (8000 hectares before the French Revolution).

History

The church and monastery of Saint Julien was the first structure constructed in this region in the 10th century. The hamlet of Ver-saille-aux-bourg-de-Galie first appeared in 1472. The medieval church was being replaced with a modest castle belonging to the Lord of Versailles.

King Louis XIII constructed a tiny brick and stone cottage in the Versailles woodland in 1623 to use as a hunting halt. King Louis XIV felt uneasy at any royal residence in France at the time he got to the throne in 1643. He was fascinated by Versailles during his first visit and made the decision to gradually relocate the royal family there with the goal of making it the most exquisite residence among European royals.Louis Le Vau was given the task of creating this piece in 1668.

Kings Louis XV and Louis XVI continued to regard Versailles as the official palace of the monarch after Louis XIV's death in 1715 and constructed further structures. Following the French Revolution, Versailles lost its inherent status when the French feudal system under King Louis XVI crumbled. Many of the castle's artifacts were either sold to the British court or moved to the Louvre.

Architecture

The Palace of Versailles is a piece of art that epitomizes French art from the 17th and 18th centuries. Its architecture adheres to the basic principles of classicism, including the symmetry of the structure and multi-column halls.

Versailles is renowned for its gardens and lake system in addition to its grand and enormous chateau. There are 55 lakes on the Versailles campus, the largest of which is the Grand Canal, which is 23 hectares wide and has a capacity of 500,000 m3. Additionally, there are 35 km of canals and 600 fountains.

The Treaty of Versailles, which put an end to World War I, was also signed at the Palace of Versailles.

The remarkable Hall of Mirrors, the biggest room in the castle for the queen, measuring up to 73 meters in length and overlooking the garden on one side and the other, is another factor in Versailles' fame being passed down from generation to generation. 17 extra-large mirrors covered the area. For this reason, the Palace of Versailles was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.
